1 (a) What is the purpose of providing various registeres inside a processor? (1)
(b) What is the role of micro-program? Explain. (1)
(c) Convert (875.55) base 9 into (?) base 12 (1)
(d) Prove that

(e) What benefits do we get by using pipeline in a processor? (1)
(f) Explain the difference between high-order memory interleaving and low-order memory interleaving. (2)
(g) What is the purpose of virtual memory? (1)
(h) Show how a 5 input Ex-Or gate can be constructed using onley 2 input Ex-Or gates. (1)
(i) Methodically design a BCD to gray code converter (3)
(j) What is the function of strobe bit in an encoder? Explain. (1)

2.(a) Minimize the expression F(A,B,C,D)=sigma (4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14) Using K-map technique and realize the circuit using basic logic gates. (4)
(b) Minimize the above expression using VEM technique taking D as MEV and realize the circuit using suitable multiplexer. (5)

3.(a) Explain the differences between the following :
(a) Static RAM & Dynamic RAM (2)
(b) Direct & Indirect I/O (2)
(c) Paging & Segmentation (2)
(d) SDRAM & DDRRAM (2)

4.(a) Compare RISC with CISC. (4)
(b) List the Error Detecting Codes & Error Correcting Codes. Compare their performance. (5)

5.(a) With the help of a neat diagram, explain how segmentation can be implemented. What are its advantages and disadvantages with regard to paging? (4)
(b) What is Cache memory? How is it addressed? Explain with a suitable example. (5)

6.(a) What is meant by the addressing modes of a CPU? (1)
(b) Explain the addressing modes of commonly used 8 bit CPUs. (4)
(c) Compare the performance of various 8-bit CPUs. (4)

7.(a) Desing the following counter using JK FFs. (6)

8. (a) What is the difference between a latch and a FF? Explain. (3)
(b) Draw a simple SR-FF using NAND gates only. Write its characteristics table. Derive its excitation table and characteriestic equation. Draw its state diagram. (6)

9. Write short notes on any TWO of the following : (4.5x2)
(a) Assembly Language Programming
(b) Boolean Identities
(c) ASCII & EBCDIC Codes.
